QJ Motor: Touch of Global Technology in Chinese Motorcycles

Established in 1985 in Wenling, Zhejiang Province, China, Qianjiang Motorcycle Group, known as QJ Motor, is one of China's largest manufacturers of two-wheel vehicles. Their long-term commitment to quality and innovation has begun to change the global perception of Chinese motorcycles, shifting away from the stereotype of being 'cheap and unreliable.


Initially relying solely on the domestic market, QJ Motor gradually developed a diverse collection of products, including motorcycles, scooters, off-road vehicles, and various automobile items. Since 1999, QJ Motor began exporting motorcycles under the name "Keeway," marking their first significant step into the international arena. In 2005, the company solidified its presence in the global market by acquiring Benelli, a renowned Italian motorcycle brand with over a century of history. This acquisition enabled QJ Motor to integrate European design and engineering expertise into their technology. QJ Motor became the first Chinese company to collaborate with an international motorcycle brand to innovate cutting-edge motorcycles.

Strategic partnerships have played a pivotal role in QJ Motor's growth. Since 2016, global automotive giant Geely became QJ Motor's largest partner, enabling QJ Motor to utilize the research and development facilities of renowned brands like Volvo, Lotus, and Mercedes-Benz. Their collaboration with the world-famous American motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson in market expansion and the production of Baby Harley motorcycles stands out as a unique achievement. Furthermore, agreements with MV Agusta in 2023 and SIMA for Europe in 2024 have further strengthened QJ Motor's global expansion strategy.

Breaking traditional negative perceptions of Chinese motorcycles, QJ Motor has demonstrated that they are now global competitors in terms of quality, technology, and performance. Their diverse range of products, from everyday-use scooters to high-performance sport bikes, stands as evidence of this transformation. Most recently, in 2024, QJ Motor acquired the Morbidelli brand and transformed MBP Moto into Morbidelli MBP, underscoring their strong interest in the premium market.


The acquisition of traditional brands like Benelli and Morbidelli has significantly enriched QJ Motor's design philosophy and engineering standards. By combining their previous manufacturing expertise with the design heritage of the West, they are creating motorcycles that appeal equally to global customers. The company operates two production facilities with a total area of approximately 400 acres. As of 2023, QJ Motor has maintained the top position in sales of large-engine products over 250cc in China for 12 consecutive years.

Balancing both domestic and international identities, QJ Motor sells products under its own name in China while strengthening its presence in the global market through brands like Keeway, Benelli, and Morbidelli MBP. Their motorcycles feature cutting-edge technologies such as smart displays, connectivity options, traction control, and ride-by-wire systems, which are highly appealing to modern riders.
