Let’s explore what a bike’s ECU is, how it works, and understand what the "oil cut problem" is along with its causes and solutions.
ECU (Engine Control Unit) is a microcomputer that collects data from various sensors installed in the motorcycle engine, analyzes the information, and controls fuel injection, ignition timing, air-fuel ratio, etc., accordingly.
ECU acts like the “brain” of the bike. Just like the human brain makes decisions based on information from the eyes, ears, and nose, the ECU decides how the engine should function based on input from sensors.
What is the "oil cut problem"?
The oil cut problem refers to a condition where the engine does not receive sufficient oil, or the oil flow is obstructed. This is commonly known as an engine oil supply problem.
Possible Causes of Oil Cut or Engine Oil Problems:
1. Oil pump malfunction:
If the pump fails to deliver oil to the engine, it can dry out and get damaged.
2. Blocked internal oil channels:
Carbon buildup or dust can clog the channels, restricting oil flow.
3. Using incorrect grade or quality of engine oil:
If the oil is not as per manufacturer recommendation, it may hinder proper flow and protection.
Symptoms:
• Engine overheating
• Unusual engine noises
• Decreased performance
• Engine seizure or jamming
Solutions:
1. Regularly check the oil level and quality
2. Clean or replace the oil filter during every service
3. Have an expert mechanic check the oil pump and channels
4. Always use the recommended grade of engine oil by the company
