What is ABS (Anti-lock braking system)?

We all like to drive our bike with speed but it can be dangerous sometimes. So it is very important to control your bike speed appropriately. We used braking system to control speed and brake is the most important safety device of our bike.

What is break ?
A brake is a mechanical system that use to control the speed or power of a machine.

Types of braking system that are usually used in bike are given below-

Drum brake system
At first we used drum braking system which was first introduce by Maybach in 1900.Drum brake is a brake system that control wheel’s rotation by pressing break pedal . When pedal is pressed shoes work inside the metal drum to control the rotational speed of wheels.

Disc brake system
This is the 2nd generation braking system. Disc brake system was first introduced at The Lambretta TV175 Series 3 in 1960. But Honda was the first production company to introduce disc brake system in front and rear wheels with its CB750 Four in 1975.

A disc brake system consists of a brake disc, a brake caliper and brake pads. When the brake is applied fuel is come and mix with piston and create a friction against the rotation of disc as a result brake pads grape the rotor from both side with the help of brake caliper and slows the speed of the wheels.

Anti lock Braking System(ABS)
This is the 3rd generation braking system of motorbike. In 1988 BMW was first time sold ABS for motorcycle. The weight of ABS1 was 11 kg but it has improve lot and now its become only 0 .7 kg. ABS provides you more control over to your bike speed. A research of a insurance company shows that, bike with ABS has 37 percents less involvement in any accident compare to those bikes are without ABS.

Advantages of ABS
As a rider we all know that stopping a motorbike is not a easy job. Most of the bikes have different braking system for both front and rear wheels and wheels become lock in the time of break. So it doesn't matter how good rider you are it often means a serious fall.

But with ABS wheels does not lock fully. ABS automatically reduce the passer when wheels about to lock and it increase passer after a moment. so rider get chance to drive his bike in right direction to avoid any accident. ABS does not effect on normal braking system.

How ABS works
Anti lock baking system consists of tone wheel, wheel speed sensor, ABS unit, brake cylinder and brake caliper. Measuring wheels speed is the main working method of ABS. Tone wheel is a type of ring that situated near the disk and with the help of tone wheel speed sensor measuring the rotation speed of wheels and provides the information to ABS unite constantly. ABS unite has the ability to determine whether the wheel rotation is going to stop or not if rotation is going to be stop then ABS used the brake cylinder to adjust the pressure with the help of brake caliper.

So use ABS and enjoy your ride with speed. Keep yourself Safe.
