This is a very important piece of information that needs to be understood for the proper maintenance of motorcycle and car engines. Pouring cold water on a hot engine can cause various mechanical problems, negatively affecting the engine's performance and longevity. This practice can damage different engine parts and shorten the lifespan of your vehicle.

The significant temperature difference puts pressure on various engine components, leading to issues like reduced strength and flexibility of the crankcase, damage to the gaskets, oil leaks, and potential harm to electrical components. Additionally, leaks in the cooling system and other wear and tear can occur, reducing the engine’s ability to absorb heat efficiently.

Currently, with the hot weather and the possibility of rainstorms in April, many bikers take their bikes to mechanics or wash centers where the bikes are washed quickly using machines. While this method cleans the bike effectively, it can damage the engine. After a ride, the engine is already hot, and pouring cold water on it immediately can cause significant damage.

To control the engine's temperature correctly, it is crucial to follow proper guidelines:

• Pouring cold water on a hot engine over time can cause significant damage. This habit can reduce the strength and flexibility of the crankcase, which may make it more brittle and prone to cracking.

• This practice can also damage engine gaskets, leading to oil leaks. Furthermore, the cylinder head gasket can be affected, reducing engine compression, which in turn affects the spark plugs performance, causing it to wear out quickly and possibly damage the ceramic jacket, making it fragile.

• Cold water on a hot engine can affect the paint and finish of the engine, leading to faster deterioration. Moreover, the extreme temperature difference can cause rust, corrosion, and dirt accumulation in engine grooves, bolts, and other parts.

• When cold water enters a hot engine, it generates steam, which can directly damage electrical components like the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition), ECU (Electronic Control Unit), and other electrical systems.

• Additionally, thermal shock can significantly reduce the performance and durability of the cooling radiator. The large temperature difference can cause leaks in the cooling system, further compromising the engine’s efficiency and stability.

Based on the above points, pouring water on a hot engine is harmful, and if done repeatedly, it can cause long-term damage to your bike. Therefore, it is best to avoid this practice and let the engine cool down naturally.
