Backbone Frame

Backbone Frame

The backbone frame is a type of automobile chassis that looks similar to the frame design on the body. In general, this frame looks like a spine and it is said that it is the backbone of a motorcycle. This backbone frame was first used in the automobile world in 1904 on the Rover 8hp. Looking at its design, it is seen that the amount of steel is much less than the frame of other motorcycles and therefore it is less expensive to build this type of frame. The engine is bolted to the backbone frame in this design. Because these frames are less expensive, this frame cannot absorb more stress and become brittle. This backbone frame is used on low-budget and low-cc motorcycles.
