About MV Agusta
MV Agusta started their journey back in 1907 and the full name of MV AGUSTA Motor S.p.A refers to MeccanicaVergheraAgusta. The modern headquarters and main production facilities are located in Varese, Italy on the shore of Lake Varese.
However, it all began in the early years of the 20th century, when Count Giovanni Agusta left Sicily for northern Italy, where he built his first aircraft, the AG.1, four years after the Wright brothers had made history in the US. In 1945, succeeding the requirements of the peace agreement after the war, which were later repeated in the Paris Peace Agreements, 1947, the production of aircraft was outlawed to Italy, and the Agusta family had to think quickly to save their high-tech business and keep their employees in work. As a result, they started to focus on other automobile and especially in Motorcycle manufacturing. In the mean time they used to prepare 100cc engines and some of their models for motorcycles. The name of MV Agusta became popular in 1948 when Franco Bertoni won the 125 cc in the Italian Grand Prix. By that time MV Agusta adopted the commercial slogan: "Racing experience at the service of mass production".
The manufacturer won its first world championship in 1952 with Cecil Sandford in the 125 cc class. Starting a domination in all classes, MV Agusta won the 125 cc, 250 cc, 350 cc and 500 cc titles consecutively in 1958, 1959 and 1960. The Italian manufacturer made an impressive streak conquering all 500 cc class riders' championships between 1958 and 1974.MV Agusta retired from Grand Prix racing at the end of the 1976 season, having won 270 Grand Prix motorcycle races, 38 World Riders' Championships and 37 World Constructors' Championships with legendary riders such as Giacomo Agostini, Mike Hailwood, Phil Read, Carlo Ubbiali, Gary Hocking and John Surtees. Since then MV Agusta is all about speed, performance, avant-garde racing technology and unbending engineering excellence associated to the most seducing, mesmerizing design. An MV Agusta is a lifestyle statement and a true piece of motorcycle art.
In these days that original, ground-breaking spirit still stimulates this company.
