Hundreds of body-parts available in your bike, but none of them touches the road.Good quality tyres can provide excellent balance, grip and control over the bike and bad tyre can be considered as the reason behindmajor road accidents. Although most riders aren't that careful about their tyres, hence as a smart rider, you should always check the condition of your bike's tyre before going for a ride, at least for the long trips.

Like every other thing, tyre also have an expiry date. Whether you use it daily or whether you are a casual rider, after a certain time your tyre will wear out. It is a general rule of thumb to change tyres every three years to get the best out of your bike. But before you do, you should know about your tyres first.

Know your tyre:
The first thing you should know is what type of tyre are you using. Currently, there are different types of tyres available from different brands. Mostly, tyres can be categorized into two types.

1) Tubeless Tyre:
Tubeless tyres are manufactured in the same manner as tubular tyres. The distinction is that there is no tube (internal tube) to hold the pressurized air; instead, it is held between the wheel rim and the tyre. If there is a hole in the tyre, the air will gently go out, and there will be no loss of control while driving. Puncture may occur, but air will outflow slowly, allowing the vehicle to maintain good control while in motion. It is lighter than tubed tyres, although it is more expensive. Because of its light weight, it is extremely comfortable and more fuel efficient.

2) Tube type Tyre:
Tube type tyres are a combination of a tyre and a tube that is all in one piece.  The tube is filled with air and contains a valve that allows air to enter. These tyres are prone to puncture and can create a large explosion of air if a puncture area is discovered. These puncture points cause the vehicle to lose control when moving. Punctures can happen, and air can outflow quickly, leading bikes to lose control. It is heavier than tubeless tyres, less comfortable, as well as less fuel efficient than its counterpart, nevertheless it costs less.

Find out how old your tyre is:
To know the manufacturing date of your motorcycle tyre, locate the 4-digit portion of the DOT code on the tyre's sidewall. The first pair of numbers represents the week, while the second pair represents the year. For example, a tyre has the code 3507 on its sidewall. That means, the production date of that tyre is the 35th week of 2007. This is the standard format for all date codes seen on motorcycle tyres manufactured since 2000.
Here are the reasons why you should change your tyres every three or four years.

A tyre can be punctured multiple times:
Every motorcycle tyre is built to last and can withstand a lot of stress, but they can be punctured for a variety of reasons.
Including temperature, sharp objects on the road, and many more. If the tyre has been damaged from the inside, it must be changed.

Tyres shows signs of ageing after three years:
Several factors might reduce the service life of motorcycle tyres, including climatic conditions, constant use, overloading, riding at high speeds all the time, maintenance, riding style, and many others. Each of these factors can lead to tyre damage or ageing. As a result, predicting how long a tyre can be used or how long it will last is extremely difficult. It is unrelated to the date of manufacture. Tyres that have never been used or have only been used infrequently may exhibit signs of ageing after a specific period of time.
For all of these reasons, mechanics advise all motorcyclists to inspect their tyres on a regular basis, since this will assist in preventing numerous incidents.

The legal tread wear limit gets exceeded:
Each tyre has a legal tread wear limit. The tread wear limit refers to the depth of the tyre bits. The tyre gets its permissible wear limit of 1 mm reached when the remaining rubber gets reduced to this degree. Every mechanic advises you to change your tires before you get to this point. After this point, neither your safety nor your grip or performance can be guaranteed, especially on wet surfaces. As a result, it is a critical point.

Tyres gets damaged with time:
On concrete roads, many items are laid out or positioned for a variety of reasons. A hole or a blunt object can seriously harm your motorcycle's tyre.  Any minor issue has the potential to grow into a major one. As a general rule, you should never ride on a damaged tyre or one that has been run flat without first seeing a competent mechanic. Accidents can happen at any time if you do this. You must be very careful during your riding duration to avoid tyre damage.

Get optimal performance out of your bike:
As the tyre gets old, it becomes a bit uncomfortable to balance your bike. Your fuel consumption gets higher and your engine doesn't give the performance it should have. As a result, it is recommended that you change your tyre to get the best performance out of our bike.

For these reasons, it is suggested that you change your bike tyres every three or four years. You shouldn’t compromise your and your bikes safety for just a few bucks. Your ignorance might result in a fatal outcome for your loved ones. So, to sum it up, always be careful about the state of your tyres.
