At present, a question arises among many people if the bike tyres are heavy or if the size is changed a little does it affects mileage? Yes, it does, but very slight. Bike Tyres cannot contribute more than 5% to mileage drop.

Logically, if you use tyres that is slightly thicker or off-road type rubber compound than the stock tyres, your bike's mileage will drop to some extent. But you need to know that the remaining 95% of the mileage of the bike drops due to some other factors, it not the tyre only.

Let's know some things due to which bike mileage drops. By doing this, some of our misconceptions can be broken as well.

1. Bike engine condition:
The engine of the bike basically runs on petrol or octane, the tyre or the entire chassis or any other fittings do not run on Fuel. All parts have to be pulled by engine power. So, the mileage of your bike depends on engine power, tuning, cc range, pick-up response. The mileage of your bike also depends on whether the gear shifting of the engine is correct. And this is why the mileage of higher cc or powerful engine bikes is very low. Engines need more fuel to produce more power and that comes from Fuel and engine features, just like humans need food to produce energy. Engine condition also matters a lot, if someone don’t change engine oil time to time, or doesn’t take care of the engine, its system will not remain good. This poses many obstacles to the proper flow of oil to the carburetor or FI sensor and the internal process. As a result, mileage drops.

2. Riding style and rider:
Bike mileage depends a lot on a rider's skill, riding type and maintenance. How much braking a rider is using, how often, how and how often the clutch is pressed, whether the bike is kept at normal speed or very fast or slow, whether the bike is serviced properly, how good quality engine oil and fuel is used, all of these determines the mileage. Nowadays you will see eco mode, sports mode mentioned in bikes, earlier bikes didn't have these but things worked exactly the same. When a rider moves at a speed of 50-70 km per hour, without much brake or clutch pressing, it falls under Eco mode, during which the bike gets good mileage. But if you are always more used to high speed, sudden braking then it is normal that your bike mileage will drop a bit.

3. How much weight are you carrying on the bike?
Are you riding single or with pillion? Are you carrying a lot of heavy things? Pillion 1 person or 2 people? All these factors reduce the bike's speed and mileage. This is because the tire or bike has a load capacity, if you carry more than this, the pressure falls on the engine, the tire traction increases, as a result of which the mileage drops, you can try it yourself.

4. What is the road condition?
Mileage depends a lot on what kind of road, how much weight and engine condition you are riding the bike. Bike mileage measured on broken roads or hilly roads and measurements on highways or city roads is different. Frequent clutch or brake pressing, frequent speed and gear changes reduce bike mileage which depends a lot on road conditions.

5. Bike Tyre:
Finally comes the bike wheel. This is because the engine helps the tyre to run, the wheel does not run by itself. Naturally, if you replace the stock tyres with wider tyres, higher rubber compound for better grip, or steel belted radial tyres, your mileage will definitely decrease. Nonetheless, if the above factors are all right and as they should be then you will forget the drop in mileage based on the bike and tyre performance.

Any bike is checked to a standard condition during its manufacture, mileage and speed tests are done accordingly. So, there is no reason to forget the first four points mentioned above and think that mileage drops a lot because of tyres. If that’s the only reason then the company used to say that 'using our brand tyres will increase the mileage of your bike'. Whether its MRF, Pirelli or Timsun everyone should state this matter. You can check the authenticity of all the discussed topics by searching on the internet or checking it yourself.
