The temperature of our planet is getting warmer every year. Research says that by the year 2050, the earth's temperature will increase by 1.5 degrees Celsius. Some of the major causes behind this are greenhouse gases, coal, oil extraction, the use of fossil fuels, etc. ENI partnered with the world's best university, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), in 2008 to revolutionize the world's energy sector.
(ENI: It is one of the ten largest oil companies in the world. This Italian energy company was founded in 1953 and is headquartered in Rome. Currently, ENI operates in 69 countries around the world. As of 2022, it was the largest in Italy and the second-largest in the European Union. And the 13th largest petroleum company in the world.
MIT: The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a university located in the United States. It is considered one of the most prestigious universities in the world. MIT's School of Engineering has been ranked first among various international and national universities, and the institute is among the top universities in the world. )
To implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals agenda, we need more energy. ENI and MIT are trying to find the perfect balance between energy circulation and environmental safety. ENI states its mission as follows:
"maximising access to energy and fighting climate change."
Through this partnership, these two organizations will collaborate for innovation and patents in essential areas such as renewable energy, environment protection, carbon reduction, and safety.
In January 2017, MIT President Raffaele Reif and ENI President Claudio Descalzi renewed their agreement and told them to work in a focused way to achieve sustainable development.
The partnership involves more than 40 MIT researchers, professors, and postgraduates working together on more than 70 projects.
Around 200 scientific publications have been published since 2008 under this joint partnership. Forty inventions have been patented, and 29 patent applications are pending as of now.
Researchers all over the globe appreciate the efforts that ENI and MIT have taken concerning the environment.
