Electric Vehicle Charging Policy about to Finalize

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has recommended expeditious finalization of the policy on charging of electric vehicles. The committee also directed to make the policy, which is important for environmental protection, customer-friendly.

According to committee sources, the draft policy on electric vehicle charging stipulates that the lifespan of electric motor vehicles is 10 years for motorcycles, 9 years for three-wheelers and 20 years for light, medium and heavy vehicles. Can be recharged using approved charging stations, own management, solar panels or any renewable energy. However, the process of registration of electric motor vehicle and issuance of fitness certificate, tax token and route permit will be done in the conventional manner.

The meeting was informed that the cost of one thousand kilometers of petrol-powered vehicles would be Tk. 5,375 while the cost of electric vehicles for the same distance would be Tk. 1,250. In addition, electric vehicles have more mechanical efficiency and are more environmentally friendly than petrol vehicles.

Regarding electric vehicles, we can be optimistic that once the policy is finalized, the potential and demand for electric vehicles in Bangladesh will increase many times more than fuel-powered vehicles for which we will soon see more and more advanced electric vehicles on the roads of Bangladesh.
