In addition to formulating a policy for electric vehicles in Bangladesh, the authorities have also started working on a charging policy for imported vehicles. He said that they are hoping that the import of motor vehicles will start as soon as the policy is finalized.
“Yusub Ali Mollah”, Additional Secretary, Road Transport and Highways, under the Ministry of Roads and Bridges, said “they had a long meeting on Wednesday to finalize the policy on electric vehicles and another committee headed by a joint secretary to review the draft policy and report back in seven days”.
Officials say steps have been taken to improve the power situation and formulate policies for the import and operation of electric vehicles in an environmentally friendly manner. As part of this, the Ministry of Road Transport asked the BRTA to send a draft proposal to the company, which insisted on bringing the then electric vehicles under registration.
What was in the draft sheet?
-According to information received from the ministry and the BRTA, the draft policy emphasized on vehicle registration.
-An electric motor is a motor vehicle powered by electricity stored in a rechargeable battery that is recharged using a battery power distribution line or renewable energy.
-Bicycles or rickshaws will not be included.
-According to the draft policy, the life span of electric motor vehicles is ten years for motorcycles, nine years for three wheelers and 20 years for light, medium and heavy vehicles.
-Can be recharged using approved charging station, own management, solar panel or any renewable energy.
-The process of registration of electric motor vehicle and issuance of fitness certificate, tax token and route permit will be done in the conventional manner.
Initiative to build charging stations:
The power department says an inter-ministerial meeting has recently been held on where or what the charging stations will be after the import of electric vehicles into the country. Hopefully a positive decision will come soon.
